Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola’s ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union (AU), Miguel Bembe, praised this Monday, in Addis Ababa, the progress achieved and the efforts made by the AU Commission (AUC) ,\u200b in order to make\u200b the organization more functional, efficient and effective.\u200b<\/b><\/p>\n

The AUC is the union secretariat responsible for the daily activities of the institution and its main functions are to represent it, defend its interests, manage the budget and resources, as well as prepare, promote, coordinate and harmonize the AU’s programs and policies with the of Regional Economic Communities\u200b, among other responsibilities.<\/p>\n

The diplomat was speaking during the first meeting of members of the organization’s Bureau of the Permanent Representatives Committee (COREP), stressing that “concerns related to almost permanent political, financial and administrative challenges should not be ignored\u201d.<\/p>\n

In this context, with a view to improving the African Union’s working methods, the Angolan diplomat suggested increasing the rationalization of the organization’s meetings, at various levels, reducing the number of issues proposed on the respective agendas and the time dedicated to their discussion.<\/p>\n

During the session, the diplomat thanked the Member States of the African Union in general and the Southern region, in particular, for the vote of confidence that led to Angola’s election as the first vice-president of the Conference Table of the continental organization..<\/p>\n

The ambassador appealed to the members of the Bureau to establish, with the support of the Secretariat, a more cohesive, integrated and determined approach, capable of responding to their challenges.<\/p>\n

He warned of the importance of promoting a consultation session to standardize methods and to guarantee the unity of the Board, during the respective mandate, as well as improving management and compliance with schedules at the organization’s different statutory meetings.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the need for Member States to respect the deadlines established for the submission of contributions and proposals, and to ensure that the Secretariat carries out its functions within the established deadlines.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that documentation must be distributed in the six official languages \u200b\u200bof the organization (Arabic, Spanish, French, English, Portuguese, and Swahili), with adequate advance notice, as well as providing a quality interpretation service at all AU meetings..\u200b<\/p>\n
