Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The minister of youth and sports, Rui Falca\u0303o, asked this Monday, in Luanda, for the commitment of the national delegation to the African Games, from the 8th to the 23rd of this month in Accra (Ghana), resulting in the winning of medals in the various modalities.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the ceremony to hand over the flag to the national mission made up of 165 members, in the Cidadela pavilion, he said that although the group is large, it is good that they understand each other as just one and that each athlete does their best to raise the flag of Angola.<\/p>\n

Before, he called on individual members to act ethically and \u201cfair-play\u201d, doing their best so that the collective can stand out on the podium in the end, in addition to mentioning the need to show solidarity with each other.<\/p>\n

Recently appointed to the position, Rui Falca\u0303o highlighted the way in which the country has grown in different competitions, highlighting the maintenance of the African ranking of women’s handball, as well as the improvement of statistics in some individual sports, particularly fights.<\/p>\n

\u201cI expect this from you, that when you return to the country, each one of you carries on your chest not only the flag, but the medal you won\u201d, he reiterated.<\/p>\n

Among the 165 members of the delegation, there are 113 athletes, 55 male and 58 female, representing athletics (including adapted), handball, cycling, judo, Karate-do, wrestling, MMA, swimming, taekwondo, tennis. and table, volleyball and chess.<\/p>\n

The group will travel in phases depending on the start of their respective tournaments, with field tennis already on the competition stage.<\/p>\n

The MMA is the main novelty of the delegation, consisting of an experimental package from the event’s organizing committee.<\/p>\n

This is because the International Federation is in the process of joining the International Olympic Committee (IOC).<\/p>\n

In the last edition, held in 2019, in Rabat (Morocco), Angola came in 16th place with a total of eight medals, of which two were gold and an equal number of silver and four bronze.<\/p>\n

Egypt was the champion with 273 medals, of which 102 were gold, 98 were silver and 73 were bronze.<\/p>\n
