Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>In the last five years, Angola has used an average of 1.3 percent of the General State Budget (OGE) in sectors linked to the Ministries of Energy and Water (MINEA) and Environment (MINAMB), under a partnership between the Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).<\/b><\/p>\n

The Secretary of State for Budget, Juciene de Sousa, who released these numbers yesterday at a seminar on the “Analysis of OGE\/2023 in the Water and Basic Sanitation Sector”, considered that the performance requires additional investment in operational expenses (Opex) and human resources, as more than 40 percent of the population does not have access to these two services.<\/p>\n

UNICEF representative in Angola, Antero Pina, states that Angola has recorded positive progress in recent years, namely the increase in the population served by basic services, from 15.4 million in 2012, to 23.9 million people in 2022, a coverage rate growth of 12 percent in the same period.<\/p>\n

In 2023, around 393 billion kwanzas (two percent of the OGE) were allocated to the Water and Sanitation sector, with the water subsector benefiting from 75 percent of the total amount, as in previous years, leaving a budget of Sanitation reduced to the country’s needs and objectives.<\/p>\n

In any case, Antero Pina, this means that there is a way to improve access to sanitation for the majority of the population, especially in urban centers.<\/p>\n
