Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The United Nations always wants to see Angola pay special attention to the affairs of the Central African and Great Lakes regions, said yesterday in Luanda the special representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of the World Organization’s Office for Central Africa. .<\/b><\/p>\n

Fran\u00e7ois Lounc\u00e9ny Fall was speaking to the press, after being received by the President of the Republic, Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o, to whom he went to bid farewell, as he was at the end of his term, as well as thanking Angola for the support provided during his mission.<\/p>\n

“We want to see Angola always paying attention to the region’s affairs”, wished the diplomat, for whom, with this, it will be possible to achieve the objectives that the African Union has set in Agenda 2063 to eradicate conflicts and bring the desired peace to the region. .<\/p>\n

Fall not only encouraged Angola to provide assistance in Central African and Great Lakes Region affairs, but also ensured continued United Nations support to the country in this regard.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that Angola had “a central role” in the revitalization of the region. “Since my arrival at this post (head of the UN Office for Central Africa), I have been an eyewitness to the efforts that Angola has made for the well-being of the region,” she said.<\/p>\n

Fran\u00e7ois Fall highlighted the fact that Angola presides over the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) and that the Angolan diplomat Gilberto Ver\u00edssimo is at the head of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS). For Fall, CIRGL and ECCAS are two bodies that play an important role in stabilizing the region.<\/p>\n

When taking stock of his five-year term as head of the UN office for Central Africa, the Guinean (from Conakry) concluded that he had left “a job well done” and said he was confident that his successor would continue with the job. An undertaking that — he hopes — will continue to have the support of Angola and other countries in the region.<\/p>\n

Bearing in mind that many Central African countries are part of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, Fran\u00e7ois Fall said he believed that the ongoing reforms in ECCAS will help, in the short term, to make a connection with all the CIRGL countries, “to that there is an integration of what we want”.<\/p>\n

During the audience, the diplomat thanked, on behalf of the UN, President Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o for the support provided during his mission as special representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa.
