Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>he National Police (PN) in Porto Amboim (Cuanza-Sul) limited circulation this Sunday on National Road number 100 (EN100), due to the floods of the Longa River that flooded the bridge on the road that serves as a connection to the province of Benguela. <\/b><\/p>\n

To this end, the PN carried out signage, with reflective tapes on the sides of the road, with a view to regulating limited traffic in the flooded area.<\/p>\n

According to the head of the local PN’s Institutional Communication and Press Department, Toma\u0301s Anto\u0301nio, the road has seen a reduction in the movement of people and goods, with strong limitations on the crossing of light and heavy vehicles.<\/p>\n

This is the second embarrassment that has occurred on the EN100, due to the rise in the river’s flow, after what happened in the town of Eval Guerra, which cut off circulation between Cuanza-Sul and Benguela.<\/p>\n

Data indicates that the last flood of the Longa River, which caused similar floods, dates back to 57 years ago.<\/p>\n

The municipal administrator of Porto Amboim, Maria Sumano, considered the situation “embarrassing” and that it needs everyone’s support, as it is a natural phenomenon that no one predicts.<\/p>\n

The administrator stated that the current floods have lasted for 15 days, with an estimated number of families affected at two thousand and 35, in the town of Hogiwa, commune of Capolo (Porto Amboim), province of Cuanza- South.<\/p>\n

Maria Sumano said that families lost their assets, especially cereal crops in agricultural fields and homes, in addition to the flooding of school and religious establishments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe population lost everything and currently 90 percent of the neighborhood is flooded,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Asked about the support provided to the affected population, she highlighted that they assisted 108 families, who were transferred to “safe locations” with the distribution of 440 sheets, still insufficient material, taking into account the number of people affected.<\/p>\n
