Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola participates, from the 22nd to the 23rd of this month, in Abuja, Nigeria, in a high-level African conference against terrorism, extreme violence against communities and unconstitutional changes.<\/b><\/p>\n

To this end, the Minister of Defense, Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos \u201cLiberdade\u201d, is in Abuja at the head of a delegation that includes the head of the Military Intelligence and Security Services, General Joa\u0303o Pereira Massano, and the Angolan ambassadors to the Union African and Nigerian, respectively, Miguel Ce\u0301sar Bembe and Jose\u0301 Bamo\u0301quina Zau.<\/p>\n

The high-level conference is divided into four panels and will be opened by the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.<\/p>\n

Other expected interventions are from the president of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat; the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed; and the president of ECOWAS, Omar AlieuTouray, among others.<\/p>\n

In the first panel of the conference, participants want to delve deeper into the scenario of the evolution of terrorist threats in Africa, the emergence of groups with military capabilities and the deficit in the fight against terrorism.<\/p>\n

The spread of terrorism, armed conflicts, the fragility of borders and laws, socioeconomic challenges and poor governance could generate discussions to design strategies aimed at mitigating the impact of terrorism in Member States.<\/p>\n

The second panel of the conference looks at combating terrorism and preventing extreme violence with a focus on the best regional and global anti-terrorism experiences that have made it possible to promote human rights, the rule of law, gender equality and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

This panel may propose the integration of the fight against terrorism, violent extremism, organized crime and the role of traditional and religious leaders in a broader development agenda that includes poverty alleviation, education and youth empowerment.<\/p>\n

The third and fourth panels propose to strengthen regional capabilities and international cooperation in combating terrorism and unconstitutional changes of governments.<\/p>\n

To this end, practical, rapid and priority mechanisms will be outlined to provide a collective response to terrorism, extremism, organized crime and unconstitutional changes.<\/p>\n

The sharing of transnational information, without violating the protection of sovereignties, will be another topic of consensus among the multilateral parties at the conference.<\/p>\n

Angola’s Challenges<\/p>\n

The Abuja African conference against terrorism, extreme violence and unconstitutional changes results from a proposal by the President of the Republic of Angola, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, Champion of Peace and Reconciliation of the African Union, during the Summit of Heads of State held in May 2022, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n

Angola’s position and its challenges to the pacification of the Great Lakes generated many expectations in the African Union, whose response is given by Nigeria with this high-level conference on combating terrorism on the continent.<\/p>\n

This Sunday, the Minister of Defense, Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos \u201cLiberdade\u201d, and the delegation accompanying him, visited the Angolan Embassy in Nigeria, where he was received by ambassador Jose\u0301 Bamo\u0301quina Zau and diplomats.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the conference, Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos will meet some African counterparts.<\/p>\n
