Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of State and head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, Ada\u0303o de Almeida, stated this Monday, in Luanda, that the country is committed to renewable energy, with highlighting photovoltaics.<\/b><\/p>\n

For the government official, who was speaking at the opening of the international conference on the environment, in reference to 45 years of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), Angola has been making a relevant and unprecedented energy transition.<\/p>\n

\u200bIt was highlighted that of the approximately 1,400 megawatts of energy produced, over 65% already come from renewable sources, and should reach 70% in the coming years.<\/p>\n

In this way, he continued, the country has been reducing its dependence on energy produced with fossil fuels and consequently reducing the excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Ada\u0303o de Almeida explained that \u200bthe effects of climate change in Angola are particularly felt in the southern region, where there are regular cycles of drought\u200b, putting people’s lives and local flora and fauna at risk.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he highlighted that the Executive is implementing a structuring and ambitious program to combat drought in the south of the country, the first steps of which are already visible since the inauguration in 2022 of the Cafu canal in the province of Cunene.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the project already transports water from the Cunene River to several locations in the province, covering a length of 165 kilometers, benefiting more than 200,000 people and thousands of heads of cattle.<\/p>\n

“In the same sense, projects of a similar nature and size are under construction in the province of Cunene, namely the construction of the Due dam, in Camucuvo, and the construction of the Cova do Lea\u0303o dam”, he said.<\/p>\n

Ada\u0303o de Almeida made it known that projects are also being implemented in the provinces of Namibe and Hui\u0301la to ensure the supply of water to populations affected by the drought.<\/p>\n

In the field of mineral resources, the minister made it known that there are still situations of illegal exploitation that bring with them financial and environmental losses.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Attorney General of the Republic, He\u0301lder Pitta Groz, condemned the practice of environmental crimes, highlighting that the institution will focus on combating them.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe first International Conference on the Environment, taking place under the motto “The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the protection of the environment, challenges and perspectives”\u200b, forms part of the range of activities of the “Legality Week”\u200b to mark the 45th anniversary of \u200bPGR which takes place on the 27th of this month.<\/p>\n

As part of the celebrations of another anniversary since its institutionalization, the Public Ministry’s scientific magazine and a round table on civil and criminal liability in the exercise of journalistic activity will be launched at the Dr. Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto Memorial.<\/p>\n

Other scientific works authored by magistrates from the Public Ministry will also be launched, with emphasis on the book “The Criminal Responsibility of Legal Persons in the Angolan Legal-Criminal System and the Legal Regime for Asset Recovery in Angola \u2013 Practical Aspects”, and will be held a lecture on asset recovery.\u200b<\/p>\n
