Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The governor of the province of Cuando Cubango, Jose\u0301 Martins, requested, this Thursday, greater attention to the development of family farming, in order to maximize results and reduce the prices of the main products in the basic basket in the local market.<\/b><\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Martins was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new provincial director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Jose\u0301 Lui\u0301s Jonata\u0303o Navalha, who replaces Rafael Anto\u0301nio Samba in the position.<\/p>\n

The governor requested more support from the various entities, focusing on technical and scientific aspects that guarantee that families, cooperatives and associations can have continuous and regular production, regardless of unstable weather conditions, as has occurred in recent times.<\/p>\n

He indicated that the people of this region have livestock farming as one of their greatest assets, to which due assistance and support must be provided, ensuring that animal health is well coordinated for the reproduction and growth of the sector, aiming for high yield and self-sufficiency. in terms of meat and its derivatives.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that Cuando Cubango is one of the country’s provinces with many rivers that should be used, not only for domestic use, but also for continental fishing, allowing families to develop aquaculture activities, creating tank reserves for the creation and sale of fish.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that, for the current 2023\/2024 agricultural campaign, the Government involved more than 107 thousand peasant families, with forecasts of a harvest of 207 thousand tons of rural products, with emphasis on corn, massango and massambala, but foresees There was also a large reduction due to the drought that is affecting most of the families covered.<\/p>\n

For the current campaign, the government distributed to peasant families 55 tons of massango seeds, 60 tons of massambala, 10 tons of cowpeas and an equal amount of butter beans, 300 tons of corn, as well as various fertilizers..<\/p>\n

It also distributed more than 44 tons of rice seeds, due to the great interest shown by families and farmers in recent years, in the municipalities of Cuito Cuanavale and Cuchi.<\/p>\n

This program also included the distribution of 37 heads of cattle for the expansion of cultivation areas using animal traction, 48 pigs for the neediest municipalities, as well as three thousand and 700 chicks for breeding among some peasant families.<\/p>\n
