Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola defends the reinforcement of legal instruments that define terrorism, consolidation of adequate prevention and combat mechanisms against this evil, said this Tuesday, in Abuja, the Minister of National Defense and Veterans of Pa\u0301tria, Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos\u200b.<\/b><\/p>\n

In his speech, at the high-level conference on terrorism, extreme violence and unconstitutional changes, in the Nigerian capital, he recalled that Africa has seen a marked proliferation of terrorist groups that threaten peace, security and the integrity of the respective States.<\/p>\n

\u200bTo this end, he called on member countries to implement the Malabo Declaration, which contains essential provisions and actions to respond to the fight against terrorism and unconstitutional changes in governments in Africa.<\/p>\n

According to a press release sent, the minister maintained that the groups have benefited from support from foreign entities, including mercenaries, increasing the outbreaks of instability on the continent.<\/p>\n

\u200bOn the other hand, he made available to the conference the experience of Angola and President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, in managing and resolving conflicts to eradicate this phenomenon that affects the lives and development of people\u200b Africans.<\/p>\n

Regional centers<\/p>\n

Angola, he explained, understands that issues of peace and security on the continent constitute challenges that require greater collective engagement from African States.<\/p>\n

For this reason, Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos endorsed the creation of regional entities to operationalize the coordination of centers for the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.<\/p>\n

This is a proposal from the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, as he emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach that is not limited to military power, but the root causes, including poverty, inequality and social injustice..<\/p>\n

He warned, at the opening of the conference, of the importance of cutting the lines of financing that fuel terrorist activities, such as ransom payments and illegal mining operations, for which he appealed for cooperation from the international community.<\/p>\n

He added that \u201c\u200bbillions and billions of dollars that legitimate governments should use to build better societies, providing education, health care and food for populations, now go to pay for weapons and responses to the established chaos\u201d.<\/p>\n

Presidents Nana Akufo Addo, Ghana, and Faure Gnassingbe\u0301, Togo, present at the meeting also defended monitoring the sources of financing of insurgent organizations that have caused chaos and mourning in African families.<\/p>\n
