Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a,\u200b participates this Wednesday, in New York, in the session of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in the Great Lakes Region\u200b.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a press release sent, Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a will speak at the meeting that will serve to present the Semiannual Report of the UN Secretary-General on the evolution of the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC ).<\/p>\n

It will be up to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region, Huang Xia, to provide information on the implementation of the 2013 Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework Agreement (PSC-F) for the DRC and the Region of the Great Lakes.<\/p>\n

Since the last Council meeting on the region in September 2023, the security situation in eastern DRC has deteriorated significantly.<\/p>\n

Angola has been making efforts at the highest level to defuse tension between the DRC and Rwanda, aiming to promote a political solution to the conflict.<\/p>\n

In this context, the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, held separate meetings in Luanda with his counterparts from the DRC and Rwanda, respectively, on the 27th of February and 11th of March of the current year , with the two leaders agreeing to meet for direct talks.<\/p>\n

On this trip to New York, Ambassador Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a, who represents the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, is accompanied by the Director of Multilateral Affairs, Sara Silva.<\/p>\n
