Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has invested around US$255 million in the last five years, according to its administrator, Samantha Power, and expects to invest another US$235 million in development projects.<\/b><\/p>\n

Samantha Power, who was accompanied by the Assistant Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard Verma, spoke to the press after an audience with the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n

The USAID administrator declared that such investments result from understandings between Presidents Joe Biden (USA) and Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o (Angola).<\/p>\n

He stated that the fight against corruption ended up creating possibilities for investment and inclusive growth for the country and that ongoing projects, such as the Lobito Corridor, excite the North American authorities.<\/p>\n

He informed that USAID will focus on improving the quality of life of the populations living along this development corridor with infrastructure and supporting small producers in transporting their harvests by rail.<\/p>\n

Samantha Power highlighted that, in the health sector, the distribution of mosquito nets is planned for the populations living along the Lobito Corridor, which will benefit all Angolans extensively.<\/p>\n

The USAID administrator highlighted that her country intends to convey the idea that the partnership with Angola is more important than with any other African state.<\/p>\n

In turn, Assistant Secretary of State Richard Verma highlighted that the US is keen to cooperate with Angola in the areas of infrastructure, health, education, among others.<\/p>\n

He assured that the relationship between Angola and the United States of America “is growing stronger and stronger” and work is being done to encourage more private investment.<\/p>\n

A note from the North American Embassy in Angola indicates that the 235 million dollars to be invested over the next five years aim to facilitate a transformative partnership, aligned with the National Development Plan (PND), approved by the Angolan government.<\/p>\n

Samantha Power is the 19th administrator of USAID, the world’s largest bilateral development agency, with a global team of more than 11,000 people in more than 100 countries.<\/p>\n
