Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Paulo Rangel, described, this Wednesday, as \u201cincomparable symbolism\u201d the presence of the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, in the festivities marking the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Angolan Head of State arrived in Lisbon earlier this evening to participate, on Thursday, in this event, at the invitation of his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, upon leaving a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, the Portuguese ruler said that this was an appreciable presence for the Portuguese, because the 25th of April is not just celebrating Portugal’s freedom , but also from Angola and other Portuguese-speaking African countries.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the establishment of democracy in Portugal is the result of the liberation struggle of Portuguese-speaking African countries, and is therefore a multilateral celebration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with a sense of gratitude that we will have the Angolan President here\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

As for bilateral relations, Paulo Rangel, recently appointed to the position, during the legislative elections on March 10, stated that cooperation with Angola is “priority and structuring”, regardless of Portugal’s political composition.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing will change, we will only strengthen our cooperation further. Angola is a clear priority of Portugal’s foreign policy, which has a clear specificity, which in addition to reason is also from the heart, due to historical ties\u201d, she stated.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, stressed that he came to meet his counterpart, at the historic Pala\u0301cio das Necessidades, to reaffirm the continuity of this historical and substantive relationship.<\/p>\n

He informed that the opportunity served to make a quick analysis of the dossiers of interest to both States, such as economic cooperation, issues relating to communities, especially mobility, among many others, such as consultation in the international arena, taking into account the important role that each partner has in the regions and organizations in which it operates.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Angola and Portugal have concluded more than 60 bilateral instruments in the most diverse areas.<\/p>\n

With the signing of the new Strategic Cooperation Program, in 2023, relations between the two, in addition to traditional areas such as education, health, justice, defense and internal administration, will extend to new sectors such as tourism, public administration, the digital transition and the blue economy.<\/p>\n
