Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>An 85-hectare space intended for the construction of facilities for the future logistics platform in the commune of Luvo, municipality of Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, was demined during the first quarter of this year.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided to the press this Wednesday, in Mbanza Kongo, by the acting head of operations of the National Demining Center in the province, Mpanzo Anto\u0301nio Nlandu, highlighting that the demined perimeter corresponds to 855 thousand and 300 square meters.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the cleaning work was carried out by specialists from the National Demining Institute (INAD) in the region, with 257 unexploded explosive devices being removed, including anti-personnel mines, projectiles and bears.<\/p>\n

The source announced that the next intervention will be carried out at the site where the future center of Mbanza Kongo will be built, in the commune of Nkiende, 30 kilometers west of this World Heritage city.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are just waiting for the green light from the Provincial Government to start demining work in that space\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mpanzo Anto\u0301nio Nlandu was concerned about the growing practice of collecting iron, aluminum and other artefacts for sale by many citizens.<\/p>\n

He said that his sector has carried out awareness campaigns among sellers and buyers of these materials to prevent possible accidents caused by mines.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have seen people die in mine accidents in various parts of our country as a result of the collection of iron and other aluminum. Therefore, we ask our population to avoid this business considered very risky,\u201d she advised.<\/p>\n

The border commune of Luvo is 60 kilometers north of the city of Mbanza Kongo. J.L.<\/p>\n
