Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, arrived this evening in Lisbon, Portugal, where he will participate, on Thursday, in the ceremonies commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.<\/b><\/p>\n

Also known as the April 25th Revolution, it refers to an event in the history of Portugal resulting from the Armed Forces Movement, which occurred on this day in 1974, which deposed the dictatorial regime in force since 1933.<\/p>\n

The Head of State, who arrived in Lisbon accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o, is invited to this festive activity, where he will give a speech.<\/p>\n

Program<\/p>\n

The central event of Portugal’s 50 years of freedom begins at Prac\u0327a do Come\u0301rcio, between 9:00 am and 10:00 am, where there will be the traditional military ceremony commemorating the date, led by the Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.<\/p>\n

A historical recreation of Operation End of the Regime will be carried out, with several military vehicles from the time arriving at Terreiro do Pac\u0327o to parade.<\/p>\n

The cars will be on display until 12pm at the site, together with the M47 Patton combat vehicle, which represents the military forces loyal to the Government of Marcello Caetano.<\/p>\n

At 11:30 am, there will be a solemn ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of April 25th at the Assembly of the Republic. At 12:00 p.m., the old military vehicles begin recreating the march on the Carmo Barracks and the siege of the site.<\/p>\n

The route taken in 1974 will be reconstructed, leaving Terreiro do Pac\u0327o, towards Rossio, going up Rua do Carmo and Rua Sacramento.<\/p>\n

At 3pm, at Marque\u0302s de Pombal, the popular parade along Avenida da Liberdade will take place.<\/p>\n

An hour later, in Largo do Carmo, another historical recreation of Operation End of Regime begins, where a military column will travel from Largo do Carmo to Quartel da Pontinha, reenacting the transport of Marcello Caetano to this location.<\/p>\n
