Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>More than 20 thousand women from nine provinces are included in the “Women in Angolan Agriculture Project”, run by the North American Agency for International Development (USAID).<\/b><\/p>\n

Valued at five million dollars, the initiative was launched on Thursday, in Benguela. It aims to empower Angolan women to be successful as smaller-scale producers in the agricultural sector. The objective is also to increase productivity and connect them to large buyers. For this reason, the initiative covers training in conservation, best agricultural practices, as well as support for the formation of cooperatives. At the individual level, the program provides access to and funds basic education and literacy for adults.<\/p>\n

Until now, the project covered six provinces, namely Cuanza-Sul, Hui\u0301la, Cuanza-Norte, Luanda, Malanje and Namibe, with six thousand beneficiaries. It is being implemented by the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Ajuda de Povo para Povo (ADPP\/Angola).<\/p>\n

In this new phase, women farmers from the provinces of Benguela, Huambo and Bie\u0301, located along the Lobito Corridor, in addition to Cuando Cubango, will benefit.<\/p>\n

With an initial USAID investment of one million dollars, currently, three private sector companies, namely ExxonMobil, AZULE and Grupo Simple Oil have invested 1.5 million dollars for the project.<\/p>\n

USAID Administrator Samantha Power clarified that, in 2023, the organization has committed more than five million dollars, to the project through the Gender Equality and Equity Action Fund (GEEA), to expand activities and increase the number of provinces in the program.<\/p>\n

This year, several companies joined the project, such as Grupo Carrinho, which provides technical assistance to communities.<\/p>\n

The Group’s CEO, Nelson Carrinho, guaranteed to continue investing in the purchase of production, having expanded the vision until 2030.<\/p>\n
