Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the International Swimming Federation, Husain Al Musallam, highlighted, this Friday, in Luanda, the fact that Angola could become the first African country to hold a World Junior Swimming Championship. <\/b><\/p>\n

Angola submitted its candidacy to host the World Junior Swimming Championships in 2007.<\/p>\n

According to the official, who was speaking to the press at the end of an audience with the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, Angola showed, with the holding of the African Championship, with the participation of 42 countries, that it has the capacity to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are willing to help with this organization. However, Angola will need to increase infrastructure to host such competition, which will have the participation of 200 countries\u201d, he emphasized.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Husain Al Musallam said he had discussed with the Vice-President questions about the importance of water sports for Angolan society, as it is healthy and linked to water and nature.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that aid had been agreed to implement the \u201cNadar para todos\u201d program, having requested the collaboration of the Angolan authorities, with emphasis on the Ministries of Sports and Education.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to work with Angola to expand the practice of this sport and ensure that future generations have the possibility of learning to swim, not necessarily to be a champion, but for their health, to save lives and to be good citizens\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

He added that aspects linked to environmental sustainability and water protection were also discussed. Also present at the meeting was the vice-president of the International Swimming Federation and president of the African Swimming Confederation, Sam Ramsany.<\/p>\n
