Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Parliament held this Monday, in Luanda, to discuss, in particular, the proposal to amend the Law on International Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters for corrections and suppression of inaccuracies.<\/b><\/p>\n

The changes to the document, according to the proposal, aim to ensure the conformity and effectiveness of the national legal system in relation to national and international standards and good practices in matters of international cooperation.<\/p>\n

It also favors the strengthening of the national system for preventing and combating money laundering, the financing of terrorism and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.<\/p>\n

It aims to offer solutions for better compliance and effectiveness of measures to prevent and combat crime, particularly for serious, complex and organized crime.In criminal matters, it wants to facilitate the establishment of optimized mechanisms aligned with internationally accepted good practices, to improve the prevention and repression of the crime in question.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Marcy Lopes, stated that the approval of the proposal is beneficial for Angola, as it complies with the recommendations of the Financial Action Group (FATF) in relation to international national standards and good practices in matter of institutional cooperation.<\/p>\n

The government official, who spoke as a proponent during the debate on the specialty with the deputies of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 10th Commissions of the AN, clarified that the country was evaluated and this evaluation resulted in recommendations from a formal and procedural point of view, hence the need to provide compliance, with adjustments and updates to the legislative package.<\/p>\n

He explained that the Angolan State is in a countdown process to be able to adjust diplomas and procedures by next June.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important to be in the process of correction and adjustment, so that we can give a positive signal to the evaluators\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

Representative Elisandra Coelho, from the MPLA Parliamentary Group, considered the process very important for the country.<\/p>\n

“What is expected is that after this process compliance will be achieved, because after being approved they will be analyzed by evaluators who, in turn, will produce a report that confirms whether or not Angola complied with the changes”, he asserted.<\/p>\n

In this way, this proposed law constitutes another fundamental step in the framework of strengthening the stability and resilience of the National Justice System in materializing the Executive’s commitments under the Government Program for the Five-Year Year 2022-2027, of the National Development Plan 2023- 2027 and the Long-Term Strategy \u2013 Angola 2050.<\/p>\n
