Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola’s participation in the \u201cObangame 2024\u201d exercise, held from the 10th to the 16th of this month, reached a success rate of 91.6 percent, said this Friday the head of the command post of the Angolan Navy , Miguel Encoge<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the review of the aforementioned exercise, he said that the Angolan Navy participated in 11 of the 12 military maneuvers carried out in the waters of the Gulf of Guinea region.<\/p>\n

The exercise takes place annually as part of the implementation of the Yaonde\u0301 Architecture, in the Gulf of Guinea region, where Angola is part of and coordinates Zone A.<\/p>\n

The exercise is part of maritime and interoperability agreements between African, European and American countries, and takes place under the auspices of the African Naval Force (NAVAF) of the African Command (AFRICOM) of the United States of America (USA).<\/p>\n

In turn, Chief of Staff of the Angolan Navy (MGA), Vice Admiral Manuel Ferreira de Jesus, said that Obangame has contributed to the empowerment of African navies, coordination autonomy and the fight against illicit acts at sea.<\/p>\n

It has allowed for more operational, international collaboration, good neighbor policy and the strengthening of military diplomacy.<\/p>\n

He said that it plays a fundamental role, as it contributes to freedom of navigation in the Gulf of Guinea region, reinforcing coordination in the fight against maritime insecurity.<\/p>\n

For his part, the frigate captain of the American Navy, Thomas Hees, highlighted that it was an honor to participate in the joint work, having considered Obangame’s activity in zone A positive.<\/p>\n

He expressed his intention to return to work with the Angolan navy.<\/p>\n

MGM participated with a patrol ship, an HSI-32 Interceptor boat, four Rodman33 class patrol boats, three boarding teams, an equal number of pneumatic boats for VBSS training, a Maritime Operations Center, an ambulance and a Helicopter belonging to the National Air Force.<\/p>\n

It also included marine special actions deployment teams, specialized in cooperative and non-cooperative approaches.<\/p>\n
