Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, witnessed the introduction of some animal species, with emphasis on 13 giraffes, in the Iona National Park, for their repopulation.<\/b><\/p>\n

The event, which took place near the mouth of the Cunene River, is part of the inauguration ceremony of 26 infrastructures to support the park’s management.<\/p>\n

In July last year, Iona Park was repopulated with 14 giraffes, three of which did not survive the weather and, this year, with another 14, this month, from neighboring Namibia.<\/p>\n

The next repopulation will be of rhinos, with camels also expected.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Iona National Park (PNI) is in the process of being rehabilitated, to provide it with modern infrastructure, capable of offering better accommodation conditions to its users, particularly visitors.<\/p>\n

The restoration works also aim to ensure greater conservation of biodiversity and the promotion of tourism in the country, based on the largest cross-border park in Angola, in an area of \u200b\u200baround 15 thousand square kilometers.<\/p>\n

According to the project managers, the first phase of rehabilitation of the PNI has already been completed, which now has new facilities for its administration headquarters, an operational support infrastructure built from scratch.<\/p>\n

At this moment, the Head of State, accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o, pays a visit to the Park.<\/p>\n
