Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The PRS and the FNLA called this Monday, in Luanda, for respect for legality in the distribution of Commissioners of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) among political parties with parliamentary seats.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the president of the PRS, Benedito Daniel, who spoke at a press conference, the resolution approved by the Parliament’s Specialty Committee determined nine commissioners for the MPLA, five for Unita, one for the Mixed PRS \u2013 FNLA parliamentary group, as well as for the PHA, a fact that it considers unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

In this sense, he clarified that the PRS and the FNLA do not constitute a coalition of political parties, taking into account that they participated in the 2022 General Elections with different candidacies.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, he continued, each of the 16 appointed must be represented by one commissioner, based on the principle of proportionality established by law.<\/p>\n

According to the president, the PRS \u2013 FNLA Mixed Parliamentary Group is merely functional in the AN and the distribution of commissioners did not comply with the spirit and letter of the Angolan Electoral Law.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the parliamentarian expressed his conviction that the AN could rethink the resolution, so that they are not behind the decisions of the political parties.<\/p>\n

The specialized committees of the National Assembly (AN) recommended to the Plenary of this body the final vote on the Draft Resolution that establishes the composition of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) in accordance with the results of the 2022 general elections.<\/p>\n

The Draft Resolution, a legislative initiative by the UNITA Parliamentary Group, establishes the composition of the CNE in light of the results obtained by political parties or coalitions of parties in the last general elections.<\/p>\n

According to the reasoning, due to the results obtained by each political formation with parliamentary representation, in the general elections of August 2022, and in honor of the “principles of majority and respect for parliamentary minorities”, the composition of the CNE must conform to the popular will expressed at the polls.<\/p>\n

The document proposes that the MPLA, winner of the last elections, have nine (9) representatives in the CNE, UNITA five (5), the Mixed Parliamentary Group FNLA\/PRS and PHA with one (1) representative each.<\/p>\n
