Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola has the capacity to carry out robotic surgery in its reference hospital units, confirmed this Wednesday, in Luanda, the director of the American company AdvantHealth, specialized in the matter, Kenneth Joseph Palmer Roman.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press after an audience with the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, the North American specialist said that a joint plan is being drawn up to implement this tool in the country’s health system.<\/p>\n

Robotic surgery is minimally invasive. The patient can return to their normal activities much faster, compared to conventional surgery, as it is less painful and has less blood loss.<\/p>\n

Kenneth Roman, head of the mission delegation of the robotic surgery evaluation team, who is in Angola at the invitation of the Ministry of Health, said he had discussed issues related to the installation of this technology in the country with President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n

The American team gave, on Tuesday, at the Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento Hospital Complex for Cardio-Pulmonary Diseases, in Luanda, a seminar on cardiac surgery.<\/p>\n

The experts visited the General Hospital of Viana, Bengo, Cabinda and the Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento Hospital Complex for Cardio-Pulmonary Diseases, units recently built and equipped with state-of-the-art technological resources.<\/p>\n

Also called robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure, through which the surgeon manipulates a robot to perform incisions, resections and reconstructions.<\/p>\n

Currently, it is one of the most used techniques for prostate cancer surgeries (radical prostatectomy) and kidney cancer (partial nephrectomy or radical nephrectomy), but also for reconstructive surgeries such as pyeloplasty for kidney obstruction.<\/p>\n

When compared to traditional laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery has several advantages, such as greater precision in difficult-to-access places, better ergonomics for the surgeon, more intuitive movements and three-dimensional vision.<\/p>\n
