Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of UNITA, Adalberto Costa Ju\u0301nior, considered, Wednesday, that “the crime situation in Angola has been taking on alarming contours”, risking escaping the control of the authorities.<\/b><\/p>\n

The politician understands that, no matter how many statements some government officials or the National Police make to minimize the situation, the reality is that “we are facing a significant increase in all types of crimes”.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, regarding “Political Violence and the State of Crime in Angola”, Adalberto Costa Ju\u0301nior said that it was a new model of “ordered” political crimes and with no apparent concern on the part of the institutions to determine responsibility.<\/p>\n

“Crime in Angola is reaching unacceptable levels and risks escaping the control of the authorities, to the point where no sane citizen<\/p>\n

feels safe at home, on the streets, in various public spaces and even in the workplace”, he warned.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that, possibly, political actors recognize that there is a program to eliminate voices against the regime and another from the party in power to take over party islands, prohibited from exercising plurality.<\/p>\n

The president of UNITA is of the opinion that some of this crime is the direct responsibility of those who govern and that it also results from practices and programs that must be quickly changed.<\/p>\n

He also listed the high poverty rates, the high number of unemployed people and theoretically the lack of reform programs in certain sectors, such as Public Administration and Justice, as elements competing with delinquency.<\/p>\n

“We have a country in which impunity prevails, in which justice is only served to the lowest strata of our population and globally subject to political obedience and corruption”, described the party leader.<\/p>\n

However, Adalberto Costa Ju\u0301nior reported that, from all over the national territory, UNITA receives terrifying reports of armed robberies, homicides, robberies, rapes, thefts, bodily harm and accusations of witchcraft with the deaths of the accused.<\/p>\n

In Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul, he cited as an example alleged members of the defense and security forces and private security companies, as well as criminals who “kill citizens in broad daylight simply because they are miners”.<\/p>\n

“In Huila, criminals operate in broad daylight in informal markets; in Benguela, robberies have become frightening and domestic violence is taking root with the naked eye”, he said, concerned about the frequent thefts of motorbikes and cold murders mixed in motorcycle taxi activity.<\/p>\n

In relation to the city of Luanda, in particular, he said that criminals, on the verge of possible impunity, decree mandatory curfews in several neighborhoods, faced, in his view, with the condescending gaze of the authorities.<\/p>\n

Among other matters, ACJ also referred to the aforementioned growing sophistication of organized and white-collar crime, evidence of drug trafficking associated with international networks and other evil actions related to this shady business.<\/p>\n

“Examples of these crimes include the recent attack on a caravan of UNITA deputies in Cuando Cubango, the attack on deputy Carlos Xavier in Malanje and very recently – on the 18th of this month (…..)”, summarized, pointing out alternation as a solution.<\/p>\n
