Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The potential of the Port of Namibe stimulates the development of other sectors, such as agro-industry, mineral resources, oil, wood and tourism, recognized this Friday, in this location, the Secretary of State for Civil Aviation, Maritime and Port, Rui Carreira.<\/b><\/p>\n

When speaking at the 1st Forum as part of the celebration of 70 years of existence of this port infrastructure, which is celebrated (24 May), the leader highlighted that the Port of Namibe has played a fundamental role in the movement of goods and contributed to the country’s socioeconomic growth, particularly for the provinces of Namibe, Hui\u0301la, Cunene and Cuando Cubango.<\/p>\n

He also pointed out the port as a \u201ckey\u201d factor in raising Angola’s position in the global economy, as it is one of the main port units that exports the most diverse products from the country.<\/p>\n

Due to this potential, he recalled that the Angolan Government approved, in 2018, the Moc\u0327a\u0302medes Bay Integrated Development Project, ongoing since 2022, aiming to transform the Port of Namibe into one of the largest industrial, logistical and service development centers in the South. of Angola, as well as making it a reference in Southern Africa.<\/p>\n

The rehabilitation of the infrastructure, he said, will reinforce the port’s efficiency, to increase the export of iron ore concentrated in Jamba, Hui\u0301la province, in the municipality of Cuchi (Cuando Cubango) and ornamental rocks explored in the South region.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State calls on those involved in the value chain to look at the port as a factor for transforming raw materials locally, investing in the manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n

He also mentioned that the Moc\u0327a\u0302medes Railway, which is intended to be modernized to be in line with ongoing investments, plays a fundamental role in the perspective of a sustainable business environment in the region, connecting production centers and, subsequently, the Northern Namibia and other countries.<\/p>\n

Rui Carreira also mentioned that the National Development Plan 2023-2027 envisages a sustainable transport sector that acts as a catalyst for economic growth, competitiveness, citizen mobility and regional integration.<\/p>\n

Under the motto \u201cValue chain of the Port of Namibe\u201d, the 1st Forum, part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of this infrastructure, which ends this Saturday, aims to identify the economic strengths of the region, enhance the business portfolio and get to know the impact of the activity and development of the Namibe Corridor, exploring opportunities for growth and regional integration.<\/p>\n

Participants at the meeting addressed topics such as \u201cValue chain of the Port of Namibe\u201d, \u201cPort and logistics infrastructures\u201d, \u201cHiterland investment opportunities\u201d and \u201cFinancing mechanisms for private activity\u201d.<\/p>\n

The event brought together business leaders, senior staff from the Ministry of Transport and the port company, among other individuals.<\/p>\n
