Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Ma\u0301rio Oliveira, will participate, this Monday and Tuesday, in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 Forum 2024, taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a note, Angolan government official, who is participating online, will take advantage of the event to explain the vision and strategy adopted by Angola to develop the ongoing national space program, with the acquisition of the telecommunications satellite, o AngoSat \u2013 2.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the minister will present the main difficulties experienced in implementing this project, the positive transformation brought about with the acquisition of AngoSat \u2013 2, as well as the future steps of the Angolan space program, the contributions to the development of the country and the southern region of continent.<\/p>\n

The WSIS+20 2024 forum is considered a significant milestone in twenty years of progress made in implementing the results of the World Summit on the Information Society, which took place in two phases \u2014 Geneva, in 2003, and Tunis (2005).<\/p>\n

It serves as a platform for multilateral discussions with the aim of taking stock of achievements and key trends, challenges and opportunities since the Geneva Action Plan in 2003.<\/p>\n

The summit will bring together high-level participants from more than 160 countries, in an initiative by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, UNDP, UNCTAD and the Swiss Confederation.<\/p>\n

The International Telecommunication Union is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communications technologies (ICT), driving innovation in ICT together with 193 Member States and with the membership of more than 1,000 companies, universities and international and regional organizations.<\/p>\n

Established in 1865, it is the intergovernmental body responsible for coordinating the shared global use of the radio spectrum, promoting international cooperation in assigning satellite orbits, improving communications infrastructure in the developing world, and establishing global standards that promote seamless interconnection of a wide range of communications systems.<\/p>\n
