Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Twenty-eight vehicles transporting ferrous material illicitly were seized, in recent days, in the province of Benguela, by the Provincial Command of the National Police.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the spokesperson for the PN Provincial Command, chief superintendent Ernesto Tchiwale, the aforementioned vehicles were seized in the municipalities of Benguela, Chongoroi, Bai\u0301a-Farta and Lobito.<\/p>\n

The person in charge informed that the vehicles were seized as part of the PN’s Scrap Operation, as they were transporting ferrous material without any license certifying the exercise of the activity.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson announced that seven citizens were also arrested, including one of Indian nationality, for being in possession of material resulting from the vandalization of public property.<\/p>\n

He added that they are charged with the crimes of falsifying a license to carry out the activity of weighing and selling ferrous material, as well as improper reception of public goods.<\/p>\n

Ernesto Tchiwale revealed that 18 high voltage electrical tower angles, 75 railway rails, ten metal bridge panels, 31 railway sleepers, a water conduit valve and a hospital trolley were seized.<\/p>\n

According to the spokesperson, 30 weighing and ferrous material purchasing houses in the municipalities of Cubal, Balombo and Benguela were also closed and sealed, of which two had investigative hours.<\/p>\n

Ernesto Tchiwale announced that these results correspond to the first phase of the aforementioned operation, which will extend to the ten municipalities with calls for heavy vehicles with ferrous material.<\/p>\n

He also said that an inspection and inspection visit to the aforementioned weighing houses is also planned, with the collaboration of a multisectoral team.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson took the opportunity to appeal to the population to refrain from selling or purchasing ferrous material in the hands of citizens or weighing houses, without being duly certified for that purpose.<\/p>\n

He defended the involvement of civil society in raising awareness among children, in order to reduce the number of children who currently scavenge ferrous material on the streets.<\/p>\n
