Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted the virtues and strengths of the nationalist and former prime minister Franc\u0327a Van-Du\u0301nem, who died this Wednesday, in Lisbon (Portugal) due to illness, at the age of 89.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a note of condolence, Carolina Cerqueira emphasized that Franc\u0327a Van-Du\u0301nem, the first president of the multi-party National Assembly, was a consistent defender of national reconciliation, equality, justice and development.<\/p>\n

“It was with deep pain and consternation that the National Assembly received the unfortunate news of the physical passing of former deputy and professor Franc\u0327a Dias Van-Du\u0301nem, fearless defender of freedom and the noblest ideals of Angolan women and men”, reads the note.<\/p>\n

He also mentions that Franc\u0327a Van-Du\u0301nem was committed, from an early age, to the fight for national independence, freedom and political emancipation of the Angolan people, having contributed to the consolidation of the Angolan State.<\/p>\n

The note states that this fact was evident in the numerous roles he held at the State, Government, Academy and international levels.<\/p>\n

“On behalf of the National Assembly and on my own behalf, I present to all the bereaved family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, our most heartfelt wishes of condolence and consternation”, he emphasizes.<\/p>\n

Among the highest roles he held, those of first president of the National Assembly, constituted after the first multiparty elections in 1992, stand out.<\/p>\n

He was also Prime Minister of the Republic of Angola, a position he held twice (91-92) and (96-99), Minister of Justice, Planning, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, First Vice-President of the Pan- African, ambassador and teacher.<\/p>\n

He also held prominent positions at the Economic Commission for Africa, based in Addis Ababa, before returning to the country in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

As a parliamentarian, the failed deputy contributed significantly to laying the foundations for the institutionalization, in 1992, of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

He lent his knowledge and experience to promote and consolidate the culture of debate and concord in the national political hemicycle, in the national political arena for the construction in Angola of a democratic state of law and a fair society.<\/p>\n

Elected by the National Circle in the 1st and 4th Legislatures, the unsuccessful man left his indelible mark on the history of Angolan parliamentarism, being a consistent defender of national reconciliation, equality, justice and development.<\/p>\n

The National Assembly hopes that his example of life and legacy will serve as a perennial reference for young generations.<\/p>\n
