Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Twelve buses were delivered, this Friday, in Luanda, to six of the nine public transport operators, to reinforce the existing fleet and facilitate the mobility of citizens in the country’s capital.<\/b><\/p>\n

The act of handing over these means was the responsibility of the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL), within the framework of the Urban Road Passenger Transport Reorganization Program in this province.<\/p>\n

The initiative benefited licensed operators in Luanda, such as TCUL, Macom, Ango Real, Rosalina Express, Cidra\u0301lia and Impla Transportes, which received two buses each, with capacity for 63 people each (29 sitting and 34 standing).<\/p>\n

With the availability of these buses, the Angolan capital now has a fleet of 412 operational means of public transport, which run daily on 75 routes, from 5:30 am to 8 pm.<\/p>\n

Regarding the delivery of the new buses, the vice-governor of Luanda for the Economic sector, Jorge Augusto, said that this is the first batch of a total of 31 buses that will be made available to improve traffic and transport for citizens in the capital of country.<\/p>\n

According to the director, the gesture is the result of joint work between GPL and the Ministry of Transport, which is also benefiting schools, police stations and hospitals, as well as municipal, communal and district administrations.<\/p>\n

Therefore, he called on the benefiting companies to make good use of the resources and put them to the intended use, ensuring their regular maintenance, with a view to a long useful life.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Jorge Augusto assured that GPL will continue to work on improving the province’s road network, as well as raising awareness among the population against the vandalization of public assets.<\/p>\n

In turn, Luanda’s provincial director of traffic and mobility, Se\u0301rgio Sachikuata, said that the measure will ease one of the province’s main problems and allow the opening of new routes, where there are currently no regular public transport lines.<\/p>\n

The official added that the benefiting operators were chosen based on their operational and transport capacity, as well as the maintenance of the means.<\/p>\n

The municipal administrator of Viana, Deme\u0301trio de Sepu\u0301lveda, praised the initiative, stressing that it brings progress, development and comfort to Luanda residents and visitors to the province.<\/p>\n

Luanda has an estimated population of around 10 million inhabitants and each operator transports an average of close to 10 thousand people daily.<\/p>\n
