Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Luele mine, located in the province of Lunda-Sul, produced 1.8 million carats of diamonds during the first half of this year.<\/b><\/p>\n

The mine, which is 25 kilometers from Catoca, inaugurated in November 2023, by the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, currently employs about one thousand and 800 people.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the Workshop on diamond production, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sociedade Mineira do Luele, Ro\u0301mulo Mucase, stressed that forecasts pointed to 1.9 million carats.<\/p>\n

He said that the production of the period in balance represents 94 percent of the forecast.<\/p>\n

Without revealing the revenues collected and the forecasts for the second half of the year, the official made it known that the diamonds were sold at US$93 per carat.<\/p>\n

Luele is a kimberlite deposit mine and is expected to reach just over one million carats per year and a gross revenue of USD 60 million, in a first phase.<\/p>\n

Implanted in an area of 104 hectares, the mine has a reserve of 350 million carats and a useful life of 60 years, that is, it will be explored up to 600 meters deep.<\/p>\n

The mine began prospecting between 2007\/2008 and is considered the largest diamond project in the country and the third largest kimberlite in the world.<\/p>\n

If the forecasts prove correct, the mine’s maximum production will be more than 8 million carats\/year, above the more than 9 million generated in 2023 across the country.<\/p>\n
