Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA) on Friday in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, considered A\u0301lvaro Holden Roberto as an icon of modern history, a diplomat and pan-Africanist who made his contribution to achieving Angola’s national independence.<\/b><\/p>\n

The recognition was expressed by nationalist and member of the party Ngola Kabangu, during the political event marking the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Angolan National Liberation Army (ex-ELNA) that is marked this day.<\/p>\n

Ngola Kabangu called on young people to be inspired by the ideals of Holden Roberto, the founding leader of the party and to keep his achievements alive and well.<\/p>\n

The former FNLA MP called on the Angolan government to include all former combatants and veterans of the homeland from the historic parties that fought for the National Independence in the social fund.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that the government will create the conditions to dignify the lives of all those who contributed to the country’s liberation from colonial rule,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A\u0301lvaro Holden Roberto wa born on 12 January 1923 in Mbanza Kongo, World Heritage city, Zaire province. He died on 2 August 2007 in Luanda and was buried in his hometown.<\/p>\n

The political event was preceded by a march through the city’s main streets and culminated with the laying of a wreath at his grave. <\/b><\/p>\n
