Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan writer and nationalist Jofre Rocha, pseudonym of Roberto de Almeida, on Wednesday in Luanda Province was honoured due to his entire work and literary career, during an intergenerational meeting.<\/b><\/p>\n

The event, promoted by the Youth Literature Brigade and the Luanda Provincial Government, aims to provide direct contact between writers of the new and old generation, as well as the passing of testimony and cultural legacy.<\/p>\n

According to the chairman of the Youth Literature Brigade, Carlos Pedro, the choice of writer Jofre Rocha came about taking into account the fact that he was part of the founding basis of Angolan literature in a context of colonial oppression, highlighting that the writer has always known how to express his insight into the national liberation struggle as young people through his writings that made him achieve his goals.<\/p>\n

In turn, Roberto de Almeida (Jofre Rocha), expressed his happiness for the homage and took the opportunity to speak about his life since childhood, primary school education, passion for writing, his involvement in the fight for freedom and political life which has always been followed by the literary world.<\/p>\n

During the event that took place at the Luanda Provincial Government library, the writer received an honorary diploma, as well as other moments of poem and trova performances.<\/p>\n

Jofre Rocha has published several books, among which the following stand out \u201cTempo de Cicio\u201d (1973), \u201cMadrugada\u201d (1976), \u201cEsto\u0301rias do Musseque\u201d, \u201cPec\u0327o a palavra – pec\u0327as de orato\u0301ria parlamentar\u201d (2012).<\/p>\n

Roberto Anto\u0301nio Victor Francisco de Almeida was born in Icolo e Bengo on February 05, 1941.<\/p>\n

“He is an Angolan social scientist, journalist, politician, writer and poet who held important public and governmental positions in his country, including speaker of the National Assembly from 1996 to 2008 and vice-president of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) from 2008 to 2016”, explained the head of the Youth Literature Brigade<\/p>\n

Between 1977 and 1980 He was also a full member of the People’s Revolutionary Council which is the first Angolan legislature, remaining in parliament uninterruptedly until 2022.<\/p>\n

Jofre Rocha is one of Angola\u2019s most renowned writers. He is a founding member of the Angolan Union of Writers (UE), in which he was the chairman of the General Assembly from 1986 to 1997.<\/p>\n

He is also one of the members of the Angolan Academy of Letters.<\/p>\n
