Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan journalist Ismael Mateus died this Tuesday in Luanda, victim of a traffic accident, confirmed the spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Services, superintendent Wilson Baptista.<\/b><\/p>\n

The accident occurred at 5:40 am, on Avenida 21 de Janeiro (near FAPA-DAA), where the vehicle of the member of the Council of the Republic skidded and crashed into a fixed obstacle (advertising sign and a tree).<\/p>\n

\u201cConsidering the severity of the impact and the degree of destruction of the vehicle, we suspect excessive speed, but the investigation is ongoing,\u201d said the spokesman for the Angolan National Civil Protection and Fire Service, Wilson Baptista.<\/p>\n

To the Angolan press, the former secretary-general of the Angolan Journalists Union (SJA), Teixeira Ca\u0302ndido, lamented the death of Ismael Mateus, who was a co-founder of the SJA, saying that the class \u201cis in tatters\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201c We owe what we are today to Ismael. It was Ismael who mobilized us for the union with exceptional work and over the years we have maintained a relationship that is more than professional, a relationship of camaraderie. We are exhausted,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n

Luis Caetano, president of the Angolan Sports Press Association, considered the news of Ismael Mateus’ death \u201cdevastating\u201d, recalling that he was a \u201cvery active actor in the country’s social life\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a master who is still going and still has a lot to give\u201d, highlighted the journalist from Angolan Public Television.<\/p>\n

A journalist since 1981, Ismael Mateus was born in Luanda, on July 6, 1963.<\/p>\n

He was a founding member of the Journalists’ Union (UJA) and a member of the Angolan Writers’ Union.<\/p>\n

Since 1985, he has published opinion pieces, initially on Ra\u0301dio Nacional de Angola, under the titles “Day to Day in the City\u201d and “Bue\u0301 de Bocas\u201d.<\/p>\n

At Ra\u0301dio Luanda Antena Comercial (LAC), he wrote for the section \u201cMessages for my Boss\u201d.<\/p>\n

Later, he would publish opinion pieces in the newspapers Angolense and Cruzeiro do Sul and in the Semana\u0301rio Angolense.<\/p>\n

He published his first book in 1992, the collection of radio texts “Bue\u0301 de Bocas”, published by Edipress.<\/p>\n

He also launched the work “Rise and Fall, by Bartolas Matias\u201d.<\/p>\n

In 2000, he was coordinator of the collection of texts “Angola a Festa e o Luto”, launched on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of National Independence.<\/p>\n

In 2001, through the publisher Nzila, he published his first novel with the title “Os tempos de YaKalaya\u201d.<\/p>\n

Based on the interviews conducted by him at LAC, on the occasion of Jonas Savimbi’s death, Editorial Nzila published, in 2002, the book “UNITA what Future?”. In 2003, by the same publisher, he published the book “Sobras de Guerra”.<\/p>\n
