Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Benedito Daniel was re-elected as leader of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), the third political force in Angola, for a second term, which aims to dedicate itself to unity among members and progress of this party structure.<\/b><\/p>\n

With 671 votes in favor, 303 not used, 26 blank and one null, the party’s 5th congress, which ended on Thursday night, re-elected Benedito Daniel, the only candidate to succeed him, after the withdrawal of candidate Sapalo Anto\u0301nio due to disagreements.<\/p>\n

According to Benedito Daniel, differences of opinion are healthy, but when they are taken \u201cbeyond reality itself\u201d and are closed \u201caround people\u201d they only harm the party\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no victory without unity and we do not need to invent differences, the ones that exist are already significant enough for all of us and they can distinguish us in unity, this is what is called democracy\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

The PRS leader acknowledged that internally there are areas that need improvement, so that they can be prepared for the challenges that the future holds, in particular some departments within the secretariat.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are now moving into a new phase, with my reappointment as the new president. I will certainly seek to lead the party with wisdom and vision. This reappointment to leadership is a crucial moment. I am confident that together we will be able to consolidate our position as the political force that truly promotes social renewal and federalism in our country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Regarding the country’s situation, Benedito Daniel, elected president of the PRS for the first time in 2017, said that Angolans cannot accept \u201cimpoverishment\u201d like what we have been witnessing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have the right or duty to demand that the Government take measures that return to the welfare state, to recover the effectiveness and responsiveness to which it has always accustomed us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The 5th congress, held a year late, was marked by disagreements, with one of the candidates submitting a precautionary measure to the Constitutional Court to suspend its implementation, alleging irregularities in the constitution of the national preparatory committee for the congress.<\/p>\n

The court granted the precautionary measure, urging the preparatory committee to refrain from holding the aforementioned congress in April, as had been announced, which ended up taking place this month.<\/p>\n

The PRS, founded in 1990, is the only one among the parties that emerged at the beginning of multi-partyism in Angola, in 1992, that remains in parliament.<\/p>\n
