Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>As of December, citizens will have a social pass in public transport to allow differentiation of the most needy social strata, from those who can pay a fare at the level of the carrier’s operating cost.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided yesterday, in Luanda, by the Minister of Transport, after the working visit of the Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, to the Operational Center of the Provincial Cabinet of Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility, within the scope of the National Road Council. and Traffic Planning (CNVOT).<\/p>\n

Ricardo de Abreu explained that the social pass will only be available at the end of the year, because the Executive’s decision is not to change the public transport fare and keep the 50 kwanzas for the entire population.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the public transport fleet is being increased in Luanda. He said that, at the moment, there are about 650 buses available in operation, but by June or July the intention is to reach almost 800.<\/p>\n

This process, according to the minister, is carried out on an ongoing basis, as he believes that it will “never” reach a total number, because the dynamics of mobility is associated with the dynamics of population and municipal growth.<\/p>\n

He also stressed that the country has an operational center that allows effective control of the entire public transport fleet in Luanda, whether the number of buses in circulation, the number of passengers and the speed of drivers. He added that this is a very useful tool with the aim of improving mobility in the country’s capital in practice and announced the extension of the program throughout the country.<\/p>\n

Ricardo Abreu underlined that the Operational Center will allow greater sustainability for operators and will trigger the process of fraud reporting, increase in fleets, and operationalization. According to the minister, this system has significant advantages for all operators and the public transport activity is often seen as ancillary.<\/p>\n

Asked about the vehicles “injected” by the State to operators and, above all, private ones, the minister said that it is an image that he would like to be able to resolve as soon as possible, because it is not the role of the State to acquire buses, but to create legal and regulatory mechanisms. to ensure the sustainability of the operation.<\/p>\n

He noted that, with the introduction of the Integrated Ticketing System and the new Tariff Regime, conditions are being created to delegate this responsibility to the concessionary operators of the career lines, as they are responsible for complying with the provisions of the contracts.<\/p>\n

The National Council for Traffic and Traffic Management is the consultation body of the Holder of the Executive Power on matters related to Traffic and Traffic Management at the national level, with powers to promote road traffic safety and propose the approval of laws and other measures to solve road traffic problems. The provincial director of Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility of Luanda, Amadeu Campos, said that 60 new passenger buses will soon start operating in the capital city in order to improve mobility.<\/p>\n
