Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Fifteen thousand farmers in the province of Hui\u0301la are engaged in the current agricultural season and receive, free of charge, corn, bean and massambala seeds, as well as work tools, as part of the program to strengthen family production.<\/b><\/p>\n

The program of the Provincial Office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has the participation of Strengthening Resilience and Food and Nutrition Security in Angola (FRESAN) and aims to increase crop spaces and harvests of various products each agricultural year.<\/p>\n

According to FRESAN deputy coordinator Juan Molina, the recent delivery of more than 15 tons of different seeds to around 500 families associated with agricultural cooperatives in the municipalities of Humpata and Chibia aimed to promote the increase in cultivation and harvesting spaces.<\/p>\n

As he stated, the seeds were improved to better adapt to the soil and to be more resistant to the pests that frequently affect the plant. \u201cWe are strengthening the activity of the farmers. At the beginning of each agricultural year, the harvests are increasingly higher.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim of strengthening the productive sector in rural areas is to create the conditions to revive farming, increase the quantity and quality of harvests among families whose income comes from the land,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, he appealed to traditional authorities to permanently monitor the activity in the field.<\/p>\n

Juan Molina, satisfied with the performance of the first beneficiaries of seeds and other inputs, highlighted the fact that the incentives made available are helping to overcome the difficulties created mainly by drought, frost, heavy rains and others.<\/p>\n

He also explained that the program is the result of an agreement between the Angolan Government and the European Union, which, concerned about the negative effects of drought, heavy rains and pests, decided to implement several projects to create food conditions to meet the needs of affected families.<\/p>\n

The deputy coordinator of FRESAN acknowledged that farming families from various parts of the southern region are now more relieved and motivated to expand their cultivation spaces.<\/p>\n

In turn, the deputy municipal administrator of Humpata, Anto\u0301nio Sebastia\u0303o, encouraged FRESAN to continue to promote local producers. He acknowledged that, for the past three years, changes have been observed in production techniques among farmers, a fact that has had an impact on the increase in cultivation areas as well as in harvests.<\/p>\n
