Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Interior Minister said that fuel smuggling is used by criminals as a source of financing for other illicit activities that put the country’s security at risk.<\/b><\/p>\n

Manuel Homem, who was speaking at the handover ceremony, called on the Criminal Investigation Service to pay special attention to preventing and combating fuel smuggling, stating that \u201cit threatens the national economy and, more than that, puts national security at risk\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cFuel smuggling is, in our understanding, used by criminals as a source of financing for other illicit activities, which put public safety at risk and, if not stopped in time, will end up taking on more dangerous contours for the nation,\u201d said Manuel Homem.<\/p>\n

The Minister of the Interior of Angola also stressed that, in order to restore the dignity of Angolan institutions, \u201cit is urgent to change the framework of reports that tarnish the good name of the Criminal Investigation Service, holding those whose attitudes are not in accordance with the principles of transparency, honesty, humanization and provision of services, with priority given to promoting the dignity of the human person, to exemplary responsibility, in accordance with the law\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to Manuel Homem, the Ministry of the Interior will maintain and intensify mechanisms to repress illegal trafficking of diamonds and other national resources, including illegal logging.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of these activities are carried out by organized groups, which involve national and foreign citizens, who use front companies to launder money and capital,\u201d he accused, lamenting that many of the criminal networks rely on the collaboration of community agents, whose mission was to repress and defend the interests of the State.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also have the challenge of combating illegal immigration and protecting our borders, a task that we intend to see strengthened at the level of the Foreigners’ Migration Service, which must also ensure the provision of differentiated, transparent and efficient public services, ensuring citizens’ rights in accessing services\u201d, he declared.<\/p>\n

To the National Police officers, Manuel Homem highlighted that \u201cthe use of force is one of the foundations of police work\u201d, but there are \u201cnon-lethal mechanisms that, if applied, produce the same results\u201d, appealing to officers not to let their guard down in the fight against crime, to avoid \u201ca perception of insecurity\u201d in society.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister of the Interior, National Police officers \u201chave been exemplary in fulfilling their task of protecting citizens and ensuring security\u201d, declaring that they must be \u201chonored and cherished\u201d.<\/p>\n

Manuel Homem said that he will pay attention to the modernization and humanization of services, ensuring that the essential human and material resources are available to institutions to carry out their tasks.<\/p>\n

Among the priorities, Manuel Homem mentioned the prevention and fight against organized crime, drug trafficking and related crimes, the extension of the video surveillance system throughout the country, the modernization of the public security system, the reduction of road accident levels, the recovery of State authority, with special attention given to the Border Guard Police and Maritime Police.<\/p>\n

It also intends to pay special attention to policies to encourage tourism and attract foreign investment, ensuring a modernized and safer service, and humanized conditions in the Penitentiary Service, with emphasis on overcrowding.<\/p>\n
