Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>As of this month, senior technicians in the health sector will attend specialization courses in the area, as part of an annual program, resulting from the cooperation protocol between the BAI Foundation and the Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical (IHMT) of Universidade Nova from Lisbon.<\/b><\/p>\n

Under the agreement, signed at the end of last month, in Lisbon, Angolan staff will benefit from master’s courses, postgraduate courses for a period of one academic year, specialization programs, short-term seminars on specialized topics, conferences and partnerships. in degrees in subjects with a shortage of teachers in Angola.<\/p>\n

The president of the Executive Committee of the BAI Foundation, Noelma Viegas D’Abreu, considered that the protocol represents an opportunity to ensure excellence in the training of national staff, a commitment made by the institution over the last ten years.<\/p>\n

With this, the official highlighted, the BAI Foundation takes another important step in the scope of its social responsibility to promote knowledge and development of technical, behavioral and cultural skills of senior management, in a continuous transfer of knowledge.<\/p>\n

To this end, the president of the Foundation’s Executive Committee said that it has several partners, including the IHMT, which is actively committed to the objectives set out in the 2030 Agenda and participates in international scientific and medical research activities, maintaining strong links with African countries of Portuguese Official Language (PALOP).<\/p>\n

As for the training programme, Noelma Viegas D’Abreu said that, in a first phase, priority will be given to the areas of primary health care, vector-borne diseases and molecular epidemiology.<\/p>\n

The official also explained that on the part of the BAI Foundation, the program will be carried out by its Higher Institute of Administration and Finance (ISAF), an entity whose mission was to initial the agreement with the IHMT, during the celebration of the 120 years of existence of this last institution.<\/p>\n

He explained that the agreement was signed to respond to the evolution of the Angolan economy, which has gained an accelerated pace, at a time when the country is experiencing a shortage of new, well-prepared staff and the need for permanent requalification of current assets, mainly those who perform functions of management and other matters related to health, culture and well-being.<\/p>\n

“That’s why we went in search of the IHMT, which has a vast and recognized experience in the organization of academic programs, scientific research, conferences, seminars, developing its activity according to the highest quality standards”, he says.<\/p>\n

The BAI Foundation, which brings together the BAI Academy, the ISAF and Vocational and Executive Training, assumes responsibility for implementing BAI’s social action strategy and for systematically monitoring the sustainability of the implemented actions, in terms of support for Education , Health, Culture and Sport. This institution, in 2021, developed and supported projects that directly and indirectly benefited around 95 thousand people in its areas of intervention. For this year, the BAI Foundation reiterates its commitment to invest 1,393,369,800 kwanzas in social responsibility projects.<\/p>\n

As for the IHMT of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, founded on April 24, 1902, by letter of law from King D. Carlos I, as the School of Tropical Medicine, it is currently directed by the Angolan doctor Filomeno Fortes.<\/p>\n

It was only in 1980 that the institute was integrated into the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and, from 2017, recognized as a foundation. It is a multicultural space, with almost 600 students, half from countries such as Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, among others.<\/p>\n
