The municipal administrator of Mbanza Kongo, Manuel Nsiansoki Gomes, who gave this information to the press at the end of the 1st Ordinary Meeting of the Municipal Council for Auscultation of Communities, announced that cleaning work is currently underway, with a view to improving conditions of hygiene in the market, something that appears to be important in the field of commercial exchange between the populations of the two countries, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n

“We are cleaning the place, removing the grass that has grown there in the last two years, to avoid being surprised when the border with the DRC is reopened”, he said.<\/p>\n

Manuel Nsiansoki Gomes stressed, on the other hand, that the Community Listening Council meeting addressed several issues, with emphasis on the recurrent situation of fuel smuggling, a situation that, he said, has been the basis of the shortage of gasoline and diesel in main gas stations in the city of Mbanza Kongo.<\/p>\n

To reach the DRC, smugglers use the so-called “caminhos Fiotes” (shortcuts) along the border. To discourage this practice, the General Tax Administration is applying a tax so that people can legally cross the border and sell fuel in 25 liter drums in the DRC.<\/p>\n
