Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>One hundred and twenty children aged between six and 14, of both sexes, participated this Sunday at the Est\u00e1dio Municipal dos Coqueiros, in Luanda, in the International Children’s Athletics Festival, called “Kid’s Athetics Day”, whose objective was to boost the sport.<\/b><\/p>\n

During the festival, oriented by World Athletics (International Federation), ex-IAAF, all over the world, on the occasion of the International Day for the Promotion and Development of Athletics for Children and Youth, celebrated last Saturday, the participants had the opportunity to learn the different disciplines such as javelin throwing, long-distance running, jumping and hurdles.<\/p>\n

The meeting also served to assess the development of students’ motor skills.
\nSpeaking to Jornal de Angola, the president of the Angolan Federation (FAA), Bernardo Jo\u00e3o, said that the level of organization was satisfactory.<\/p>\n

The leader appealed to parents and guardians to accompany their children in these activities.
\n“It’s important to see how the mobility of physical exercises is done,” he said.<\/p>\n

The coordinator of the activity, Bernardo Manuel, made it known that the objective is to raise awareness and motivate children and empower them with knowledge of the various stages of athletics.<\/p>\n

“It’s an Olympic sport and practitioners can, of course, play football, basketball or something else,” he said.<\/p>\n

Jussanio dos Santos, 11 years old, a student at S\u00e3o Bruno College, revealed that it was advantageous to be part of the group: “I’m enjoying being here. Now I’m going to be more careful with training to be national champion in the 200 meters”.<\/p>\n

J\u00e9rsia Lameira, 11 years old, a student at Col\u00e9gio S\u00e3o Paulo II, during the festival practiced throwing and jumping. J\u00e9rsia said: “I advise other children to practice athletics”.<\/p>\n
