Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The United Methodist Church celebrated, this Sunday, Mother’s Day, a leading figure for the development of society and the formation of man.<\/b><\/p>\n

The president of the General Council for Programs and Projects of the United Methodist Church, Reverend Vladimir Agostinho, explained that the date is celebrated in honor of the American Anne Maria Jarvis, who, after having lost her mother, in 1905, idealized the event, after the of a thanksgiving service, alluding to the mother.<\/p>\n

“Anne lost her mother who had been an example of faith and dedication to the church and was sad for a long time, having two years later invited several friends to her house, on the second Sunday of May, for a thanksgiving celebration, having announced the idea of \u200b\u200bestablishing a national day in honor of mothers\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

According to the reverend, Mother’s Day in Methodism is seen as a feast, due to its role and contribution in the history of humanity.<\/p>\n

He pointed, based on the Bible, testimonies of mothers who showed courage to overcome adversity, of those who revealed themselves with unconditional love, faith and who dedicated their lives and skills to the service of God.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that several countries celebrate the anniversary on the first Sunday of May and others on the second. Countries such as the United States, Brazil, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands and South Korea celebrate the date on the second Sunday of May.<\/p>\n
