Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The provincial governor, Joa\u0303o Diogo Gaspar, guaranteed that the region’s health units have the technical and human resources to deal with the cholera outbreak that is affecting some regions of the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press after visiting some health establishments, the provincial coordinator of the Cholera Prevention and Combat Commission said that the district has a three-month supply of medicines, and that the units are stocked with drugs to contain the disease.He stressed that cholera is affecting the provinces of Luanda (epicentre), Icolo e Bengo and Malanje, which is why the Government of Cuanza Norte is working with civil society, traditional and religious authorities and the media to mobilise and raise awareness among the population about the dangers of the disease. He called for greater attention to be paid to areas with population clusters and for measures to prevent cholera to be reinforced, such as sanitation, regular hand washing and treatment of drinking water. He also urged schools and other public institutions to create conditions for prevention, by washing hands at the entrance, and asked the public not to ignore the phenomenon, recalling that it is a very dangerous disease that kills in a short period of time. Joa\u0303o Diogo Gaspar said that although the province has not recorded any positive cases, he is concerned about the situation in the province of Malanje, given that the affected individual had passed through Cuanza Norte. He asked the cleaning operators to pay more attention to the treatment of solid waste and to have a water treatment plan in place for all distribution sources in the province.<\/p>\n

Also today, the provincial governor also chaired a meeting of the Provincial Commission for the Prevention and Control of Cholera, which includes public, religious and traditional institutions, as well as Defence and Security bodies.<\/p>\n

The province of Cuanza-Norte recorded outbreaks of cholera in 2006 and 2007.<\/p>\n
