Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>More than one billion people in the world live with some type of physical, intellectual or sensory disability, according to a report by the United Nations (UN), said this Tuesday, in Luanda, the Minister of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women.<\/b><\/p>\n

Faustina Alves, who was speaking during the opening of the national campaign on accessibility, added that, of the mentioned number, 200 million experience considerable functional difficulties, with 2.5 percent of the population in Angola having some type of disability.<\/p>\n

According to Faustina Alves, in 2016, the Angolan State approved Law n\u00ba10\/16 of the 27th of July, in order to create greater and better architectural, communicational, instrumental and methodological accessibility.<\/p>\n

The minister underlined, in the field of architectural accessibility, that the country currently has 444 adapted buses with ramps for wheelchair users and places reserved for people with disabilities in general.<\/p>\n

He said that the country is witnessing, albeit timidly, the construction of buildings with different purposes, with accessibility criteria and conditions, with adapted bathrooms, reservations in the parking lot or elevators installed with Braille System.<\/p>\n

Faustina Alves highlighted that, in terms of communication accessibility, until 2019, the National Institute of Special Education (INEE) trained 286 Angolan sign language interpreters and the National School of Public Administration (ENAPP) regularly teaches Angolan Sign Language Courses. , having trained 98 interpreters in 2020.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the implementation, by the Public Television of Angola, of Sign Language in its main information programmes, thus safeguarding the right to information for people with hearing impairments.<\/p>\n

“In terms of instrumental accessibility, it is essential to highlight the work that has been carried out by the Ministry of Education (MED), within the scope of the Learning for All Project, through which machines in Braille have been distributed in all municipalities in the country, giving rise to the creation of Rooms and Zones of Pedagogical Influence”, he said.<\/p>\n

Faustina Alves said that, within the scope of the Program for Valuing Families and Family Skills, MASFAMU has promoted lectures at national level, with a view to eliminating prejudice, stigma, stereotypes and discrimination in relation to people with disabilities, having also prepared a program called “More inclusion”, which aims to check the number of people with disabilities and women in the formal market of the 493 institutions studied in Luanda.<\/p>\n

He added that Luanda controls 318 people with disabilities who have access to employment, of which 152 are absorbed by the public sector and 166 by the private sector, with the registration being carried out in the other provinces. The campaign’s motto is “Build access and break down barriers, for a more accessible Angola”.<\/p>\n
