Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The provincial governor of Cubango, Jose\u0301 Martins, expressed his dissatisfaction this Saturday with the current state of the Missombo larviculture and fattening center.<\/b><\/p>\n

The governor made his statement during a visit to the complex to assess the current state of the centre, which is due to open in 2022.<\/p>\n

With an initial annual capacity of 430 tonnes of fresh cacusso and 660 tonnes of feed, the centre has 38 tanks for fattening fish and 16 greenhouses and is located in the commune of Missombo, municipality of Menongue.<\/p>\n

Currently, only nine tanks and three greenhouses are in operation, which has substantially reduced production capacity.<\/p>\n

The governor stated that the Missombo larviculture centre plays a significant role in strengthening the local economy and providing quality food to the population.<\/p>\n

To reverse the current situation, the governor said he will work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to transfer the management of the centre, with a view to increasing production and productivity.<\/p>\n

According to Jose\u0301 Martins, the Missombo larviculturing and fattening centre has reduced fish production, causing a shortage of the product on consumers\u2019 tables and consequently reducing its contribution to the national economy, particularly in the province.<\/p>\n

\u201cFish is a food that is on families\u2019 tables every day, and we want to ensure food self-sufficiency. That is why we listened to the workers\u2019 difficulties and, together with the relevant ministry, we are working to create strategies to reverse the current situation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The fish is sold in the markets of Bie\u0301, Huambo and Namibia.<\/p>\n
