Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the United Nations General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, highlighted, Friday (13), the importance of the Cafu water transfer system, from the Cunene River, in supplying and combating drought in the province.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press at the end of the visit to verify the functioning of the Cafu Canal, Abdulla Shahid, said that the project was created to facilitate access to water for consumption by the population, livestock and agriculture.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the population of Cunene, in 2021, faced the consequences of the drought, which is why he recognizes the dimension of the project, which should serve as a model to be implemented in regions that face the same problem.<\/p>\n

“We visited the water transfer system of the Cunene River. We liked what we saw. We are grateful for the work of the Angolan Executive, led by President Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o, and it was a clear demonstration of the commitment to combating drought and climate change”, he said.<\/p>\n

Abdulla Shahid also highlighted the collaboration of the Angolan Government and the United Nations in the execution of ongoing projects for the creation of community gardens, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs, T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio, underlined that the visit of the President of the UN General Assembly is recognition of the Executive’s efforts to combat drought.<\/p>\n
