{"id":80260,"date":"2025-03-23T16:50:17","date_gmt":"2025-03-23T16:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/general-alberto-netos-remains-rest-in-alto-das-cruzes"},"modified":"2025-04-28T07:17:35","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T07:17:35","slug":"general-alberto-netos-remains-rest-in-alto-das-cruzes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/general-alberto-netos-remains-rest-in-alto-das-cruzes","title":{"rendered":"General Alberto Neto&#8217;S Remains Rest in Alto Das Cruzes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola. <\/strong><\/span><b>The remains of General Alberto Correia Neto, who died on Wednesday (19) at the age of 76, after suffering from illness, were buried this Saturday in the Alto das Cruzes Cemetery in Luanda.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The funeral ceremony of the former Chief of the General Staff (EMG) of the People&#8217;s Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA) was witnessed, in addition to family and friends, by the Minister of State and Chief of the Military Household of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, among other individuals from the State apparatus and the Defence and Security Forces.<\/p>\n<p>Before the funeral, a wake was held at the Army Headquarters, during which the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o, paid his last respects to General Alberto Correia Neto, who died in Madrid, Spain.At the scene, the Head of State laid a wreath, comforted the family and signed the book of condolences, in which he considered the late general an honest man who dedicated his entire life to serving the Angolan homeland.<\/p>\n<p>The President wrote that his dynamism in serving the Angolan people led him to participate in political, military and diplomatic fronts, where he zealously carried out the highest functions in the FAPLA and in Angolan diplomacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe bow before his memory, expressing our condolences to the grieving family, to all the companions and friends of his long and dignified life\u201d, said Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n<p>The son of Borges Francisco and Maria Jose\u0301 Correia, Alberto Correia Neto was born on 8 July 1949, in Quimbele, Ui\u0301ge province.As a student, he belonged to a clandestine group of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), which supported the armed struggle in the north and east of Angola, known as the &#8220;Regional Committee of Luanda&#8221;, which brought together workers, intellectuals and students.<\/p>\n<p>Arrested in 1969, in April 1970 he was given the administrative measure of establishing himself as a resident for 6 years in Cape Verde, in the Tarrafal Prison Camp, from where he was released on 1 May 1974.<\/p>\n<p>He held the positions of political commissar of the Angolan People&#8217;s Air Force\/Anti-Air Defence (FADA\/DAA) and commander of the same branch of the Armed Forces, from 1986 to 1991.<\/p>\n<p>A retired general, Alberto Correia Neto also held the positions of Defence Attache\u0301 at the Angolan Embassy in the United States of America, and Angolan Ambassador to Brazil, Slovakia and Germany.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Angola<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola.
