The emergence of cases of child labor in the province of Zaire, as well as in others in the country, was considered, in the city of Mbanza Kongo, by sociologist Zolana Avelino, as one of the indicators of the breakdown of the family nucleus in Angola, a situation that contributes to the increase of poverty, both in communities and in large cities.<\/p>\n

The professor of General Sociology and Sociology of Education at the Higher School of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanity, in Mbanza Kongo, made this statement as part of the International Day of the Family, marked Sunday.<\/p>\n

In justifying her statement, Zolana Avelino stressed that the fact that several children are forced to sell products or collect plastic bottles from the streets and dumpsters demonstrates the economic weakness of many families, a situation that results in the destruction of childhood and the traditional role of parents. , which is limited to the sustenance of the offspring.<\/p>\n

“Children should study and participate in recreational activities, but we noticed a reversal of tasks when they are forced to sell fruit and vegetables on the city streets and in the markets, to guarantee their own livelihood and that of their siblings, which indicates family disruption. requires a study of the profile of these children, so that State policies are directed to their areas of origin, in order for the affected families to be reinserted in the economic fabric of the province\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

According to the sociologist, exposing children to the danger of abduction, rape and physical abuse during their work on the streets should impel adults to carry out concrete actions aimed at the process of their social reintegration, through the construction of reception centers and re-education of minors in conflict with the law.<\/p>\n

Unemployment, in a context where everything depends on insertion in the labor market, as he stressed, is also a factor that contributes to the destabilization of families and leads children to enter the world of crime.<\/p>\n

“The inability of certain parents to be able to support their families also leads to the loss of certain standards, norms, moral and civic values, fundamental to maintaining a healthy society. Hence the need for the State to continue to implement policies aimed at overcoming the issue of poverty that affects several Angolan families\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n
