Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Freight transport operations in the Lobito Corridor, during the 2024 financial year, reached a total volume of around 125 thousand tons, 40 thousand of which corresponded to shipments of copper ore from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).<\/b><\/p>\n

Press obtained the data from the management of Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR), the concessionaire of the Benguela Railway, whose operations began about a year ago.<\/p>\n

LAR expects to reach an annual average of over one million tons exported to Europe, America and Asia in the coming years, taking into account the growing demand for the concessionaire’s services from raw material exporters.<\/p>\n

LAR’s Operations Director, Nicolas Gregoir, stated in statements to the press that the company, which also holds the CFB and the Lobito Port Mining Terminal, intends to achieve the necessary profitability in order to sustain the investments made.<\/p>\n

Nicolas Gregoir assured that the company is investing in human resources, which includes recruiting drivers and conductors, as well as in rolling stock and infrastructure, with a view to increasing the number of trains and stations.<\/p>\n

According to the person in charge, an investment of around 600 to 800 million dollars is estimated, with financing to be mobilized by partner banks DFC (United States) and DBSA (South Africa).Nicolas Gregoir was optimistic about the projected increase in daily mineral transport levels over the next three years, at a time when the company has 800 employees.<\/p>\n
