Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The average price of the basic basket falls, in the week of 16 to 22 May, 35.7 percent compared to November 2021, in the national market, while, in the international market, an inverse behavior is expected for the average of prices, which registered a high increase of 29.4 percent in the same period.<\/b><\/p>\n

Data from the Food Strategy Reserve (REA), which in November started operations to protect the domestic market from the volatility of food raw material prices, indicate that the general average price of products in the basket has dropped from 16,801 to 10,809 kwanzas.<\/p>\n

In the foreign market, this basket of products soars under the influence of the effects of Covid-19 and the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has increased the price of fuel, energy, transport and logistics.<\/p>\n

REA attributes the general variation in the value of the goods in the basket, in Angola, to the drop in the price of each product, such as the 25-kilogram bag of Thai rice, which reduces from 11,737 to 6,500 kwanzas, while the same quantity of the brand Myanmar drops from 10,000 to 6,500.<\/p>\n

Over the course of the week, it is estimated that the price of a 25-kilogram bag of cornmeal drops from 13,800 to 7,050 kwanzas and that of wheat flour from 23,033 to 7,875, while the price of a box of chicken (10 kilos), from 10 190, decreases to 7 100 and that of the 50 kilo bag of sugar, 24 200 goes to 19 533.<\/p>\n

The 12-liter soy oil box drops from 17,450 to 11,050 kwanzas, while the price of a 25-kilogram bag of Pinto beans drops from 24,000 to 20,863 kwanzas.<\/p>\n

The REA is an initiative of the Executive that, in a first phase, plans to acquire, store and distribute up to 354 thousand tons of foodstuffs to wholesalers, progressively increasing to up to 520 thousand tons of products.<\/p>\n

In addition to imports, a good part of these goods will be produced and transformed in the country, with an impact on the price reduction of up to 5.0 percent for the final consumer.<\/p>\n
