Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola and the Republic of Congo are studying the possibility of setting up a joint and permanent defense and security commission, to ensure, in the future, the delimitation and demarcation of land, maritime and river borders.<\/b><\/p>\n

This claim stems from a Memorandum of Intent of the Protocol on the Fight against Cross-border Crime and Terrorism, signed by the two countries, in February this year, in Luanda. The Ministerial Meeting on Border Issues between Angola and the Republic of Congo, led by the ministers of the Interior (Angola), Eug\u00e9nio Laborinho, and of the Administration of Territory Decentralization and Local Development (Congo), Guy Georges Mbacka, took place on Friday, in Ponta Negra, decided to proceed with the consultations to reach the delimitation of the borders.<\/p>\n

At the meeting, the delegations of the two countries agreed to maintain permanent consultation and highlighted the existing cooperation in security matters at the shared border.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, which took place from the 16th to the 19th of this month, the parties agreed to exchange information on activities carried out on the common border by individuals or groups that endanger peace, security and stability.<\/p>\n

The two States share a common border of 201 kilometres, and fuel smuggling from Angola is one of the main concerns registered in bilateral relations, along with illegal fishing.<\/p>\n
