Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola will contribute ten million dollars to the African Union Humanitarian Fund, the President of the Republic announced on Friday (27), in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.<\/b><\/p>\n

Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o, made the announcement while directing the work of the Summit on Humanitarian Issues and the Donor Conference. The same amount will be made available by South Africa.<\/p>\n

Thus, Angola and South Africa are the two countries on the continent that will contribute the most to the Fund aimed at responding to humanitarian issues.<\/p>\n

Denmark, one of the partners of the African Union, will contribute 19 million euros. Overall, 66 million dollars were raised during the event that ended last night.<\/p>\n

Closing the session, the Angolan Head of State said that the donations announced can help to structure an African Union fund with significant value, but not enough to contribute to the solution of the growing humanitarian crises that are emerging on the continent.<\/p>\n

“I think it is essential that we focus on creating a mechanism that allows us to mobilize donations and own funds from Africa, so that, with contributions from other sources, we can create African capacity to always respond to emergency situations”, he said.<\/p>\n

For President Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o, more than that is the eradication of the deep causes that give rise to crises, which requires joint efforts to combat terrorism, improve governance and equip countries with human resources.<\/p>\n

“We will have to make efforts to improve the coordination and concertation of policies, so that, within the scope of joint action, we can strengthen solidarity and ensure the adoption of measures that guarantee the effective protection and assistance of vulnerable groups, especially women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

The President of the Republic considers that the Malabo Declaration on Humanitarian Issues becomes the guiding document for all common action. Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o said that the document contains a clear analysis of the humanitarian situation on the continent and objective indications on the steps to be taken by all States in order to overcome and overcome the difficulties arising from emergency situations.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the intervention, Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o said that he had expressed to the President of Senegal, Macky Sall, on behalf of the Angolan people, feelings of regret for the tragedy that occurred in that country.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the Summit, the President of the Republic met with the Head of State of Liberia, George Weah, with whom he discussed cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

\nThe Angolan Head of State assumes again today, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, the presidency of the high-level meeting on terrorism, unconstitutional changes and violent extremism, after having done so yesterday at the summit dedicated to the humanitarian situation on the continent.<\/p>\n

President Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o guides the work to replace the organization’s president, the Senegalese Macky Sall, who had to return to his country yesterday, after the opening session, due to the tragedy that resulted in the death of 11 newborns in a hospital.<\/p>\n

The babies died Wednesday in the wing of a hospital, in the Senegalese city of Tivavaouane, following a fire that is believed to have been caused by a short circuit.<\/p>\n

Angola occupies one of the vice-presidencies of the Bureau of the Assembly of Heads of State of the African Union and, in this capacity, Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o guides the sessions due to the unavailability of Libya, the second vice-presidency.<\/p>\n

The first vice presidency remains in an impasse between Kenya and the Comoros Islands.<\/p>\n
