Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Due to its rarity, the Chinguvu musical instrument will become the signature instrument of the regional traditional music and dance festival “Ngeya” this year, with the aim of preserving, promoting, and promoting it.<\/b><\/p>\n

The announcement was made today, Friday, by the festival’s artistic director, Gabriel Tchiema, while speaking to the press about the conditions for the opening of the fourth edition of the event, which this year also celebrates the 50th anniversary of National Independence.<\/p>\n

According to him, the measure also aims to attract young artists to the instrument, learning how to make and play it, with a view to preserving it.The Cinguvu musical instrument, recently declared a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in the field of traditional knowledge and crafts, is a traditional instrument that, in practical terms, is no longer used in the folklore orchestra of the eastern region of the country.<\/p>\n

Besides its usefulness in art, the Chinguvu, which produces a sound that carries approximately thirty kilometers, also served as a means of communication among the Cokwe, with which messages were sent calling for a specific issue or alerting them to any phenomenon in the community.<\/p>\n

As an orchestra, the Cinguvu accompanies the performances of various masks and collective dances, namely kapaka, kateko, tchisela, and tchianda.<\/p>\n

The non-competitive event, which begins friday, will showcase the main traditional and folkloric rhythms of the East, as well as promote intercultural revival and dialogue.<\/p>\n

The last edition of the event sponsored by Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, was held in June 2024 in the city of Saurimo, province of Lunda-Sul, with the participation of more than 100 artists from the east.<\/p>\n
